Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2026
1. Acceptance
By creating a Mazisi account or using the Mazisi platform you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of South Africa.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Mazisi. By registering you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you will keep it up to date.
3. Free and Pro tiers
- Community (Free) — you may browse safety alerts and hustle listings, report up to 2 incidents per day, complete 1 survey per month, earn daily check-in points, refer new users, and redeem points for airtime (120 pts = R1, minimum 600 pts), all at no charge.
- Pro Hustler (R10/month) — a recurring subscription processed by Paystack. Pro allows up to 5 incident reports per day, posting listings, unlimited surveys, and an improved redemption rate of 100 pts = R1 (minimum 500 pts). The subscription renews automatically on the same date each month until cancelled.
4. Payments and cancellations
All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and inclusive of applicable VAT. You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not issue pro-rata refunds except where required by the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
5. Mazisi Points
Mazisi Points are earned by contributing to the platform (reporting incidents, completing surveys, referring users) and have no cash value. Points may be redeemed for prepaid airtime at a rate of 100 pts = R1 (Pro subscribers) or 120 pts = R1 (Free users), subject to a minimum redemption of 500 pts (Pro) or 600 pts (Free). We reserve the right to adjust the redemption rate with 30 days' notice. Points expire 365 days after being earned.
6. Safety features and limitations
Mazisi is a community-assistance and information platform, not a police, security, emergency-response, medical, or law-enforcement service. Our safety features provide recent, user-generated crime and safety reports to eligible nearby members. Reports may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, misleading, or unavailable, and we do not guarantee that a report describes a real or current event. Mazisi does not monitor incidents, dispatch responders, investigate reports, verify identities, or guarantee anyone's safety.
Mazisi does not replace SAPS, private security, emergency services, medical professionals, or any other official authority. In an emergency or when you are in danger, move to a safe place where possible and contact the appropriate official service, including SAPS on 10111 or ambulance services on 10177. You are solely responsible for deciding whether, when, and how to act on information shown by Mazisi. Any action you take, or fail to take, based on that information is your responsibility and does not create a duty, promise, or liability on the part of Mazisi.
The Panic Button sends the available location information to eligible nearby Mazisi users and any configured recipients described in the relevant feature. Delivery depends on permissions, battery settings, Bluetooth and network availability. It is not a guaranteed emergency response and is not a replacement for calling official emergency services.
7. User conduct
You agree not to post false or malicious safety reports, spam listings, harass other users, attempt to circumvent the subscription system, or use the platform for any unlawful purpose. Violations may result in immediate account suspension and forfeiture of any unredeemed points.
8. Content ownership
You retain ownership of content you post. By posting, you grant Mazisi a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, distribute and promote that content within the platform. We will not sell your content to third parties.
9. Limitation of liability, release and indemnity
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, Mazisi's liability for any claim arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or incidental damages, including loss, injury, property damage, missed opportunities, or harm arising from reliance on, or action taken in response to, a community report, alert, Panic Button event, or other user content.
You release Mazisi, its directors, employees, contractors, and agents from claims arising from your use of, or reliance on, community reports or interactions with other users, except to the extent a claim cannot lawfully be excluded. You agree to indemnify and hold them harmless from claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and reasonable legal fees arising from your unlawful conduct, your content, your decisions or actions based on platform information, or your breach of these Terms. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after the updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance. We will notify you of material changes via the app or email.
